This season we are going to transform our work and educational experience. As a professional, we try to break up the monotony of the workweek. As students, we are back in school this season gaining insight into the industry of choice. Perhaps, you are praying for a promotion or seeking inspiration while at a job. How To Make The Most Of Conferences as Black Professional

The key to navigating conferences is recognizing your particular goals as a professional. Before attending the events research the speakers.

      • Find out if more opportunities are tied to speakers at the event.
      • Establish a comprehensive list of objectives and goals.
      • Initiate conversations with people you admire or whose work interests you.
      • Conduct thorough research on job openings relevant to the speakers’ professions.
      • Position yourself to ask as many helpful questions as you want.
      • When you return home, be sure to follow up with the people you meet.
      • Communicate your goals and intentions that you did at the start.
      • Make it a point to follow up with these people every month, and propose setting a time to do coffee or dinner if distance allows.

Regardless of your level, take an opportunity to consider your professional interests.

With the current state of the job market, attending events applies a creative element to finding employment. Beyond attending events and conferences, research membership in professional organizations or community groups. Stay connected and always look to share your skills and interests. Finding valuable conferences and events requires effort, but the rewards for professional growth and networking make it all worth it. Be determined to have fun and build the next part of your future.
